BACK FLEXION EXERCISES
This is a back-rehabilitation program that involves forward bending (flexion) of the lumbar spine from the
waist.
If the
patient’s pain is relieved by forward bending, promoting these exercises would
be very helpful.
GOALS OF BACK FLEXION EXERCISES
- To release tight hip flexors and stretch back extensors
- To unlock facet joints
- To open intervertebral foramina
- Strength the abdominal muscles
- Mobilize the posterior lumbosacral articulation
- Increase intra-abdominal pressure
WHEN TO AVOID BACK FLEXION EXERCISES
- Postural low back pain while bending forward
- Acute disc prolapses
- Lateral trunk shift or list.
- Immediately after prolonged rest with hyper hydrated discs which cause rupture
