PARS INTERARTICULARIS
- The pars interarticularis is the bony bridge between the superior (upper) and the inferior (lower) processes
- It can be also called as PARS in short
- Abnormality of Pars interarticularis due to fracture or by birth (congenital) leads to Spondylolysis which can progress into Spondylolisthesis.
- Stress fractures of the pars interarticularis mostly occur while playing sports such as volleyball, although the mechanism of injury is not clear.
- Bilateral fractures of pars at the second cervical vertebra are known as a variant of the hangman's fracture.
