SLUMP-SITTING EXERCISE

  • SLUMP SITTING is also used for sciatic nerve mobilization.

  • Various position of leg and neck are used to differentiate tight and strain hamstring (muscle at back your thigh) from possible sites of restriction or for the nerve mobility from back to the leg (lumbosacral plexus and sciatic nerve).

HOW TO DO SLUM SITTING EXERCISE?

  1. Sit in an upright position on your seat
  2. Slump yourself by bending your neck, upper, and lower back as shown in the image.
  3. Planterflex ankle (bent your ankle downwards) and also bent the knee as much as possible.
  4. Now extent the neck (move your neck backward away from you) and straighten your knees with the ankle stretched towards you (dorsiflexed)
  5. Perform as shown above 5 times and relax.
  6. Do this for 3 repetition

PRECAUTION WHILE DOING SLUM SITTING EXERCISE

  • The movement should be slow and rhythmic.
  • Avoid any accessory movements like hiking your hip or too much back extension. 

If you feel any discomfort or increase in pain then stop performing the exercise and consult your physiotherapist for a proper diagnosis.
