LIFTING A BOX

  • Try to assess initially whether the box is too large, heavy, or awkwardly shaped before you attempt to lift it. 
  • Squat down with the box between your legs and one foot on either side.
  • The back should be kept straight, slide your hands under the box and grasp it on either side. Stand up in one smooth motion slowly, keeping the object close to you.
  • Try not to bend your back, and be careful not to lean backward; use abdominal muscles to support your spine. Distribute weight equally on both legs. 
  • If the box is too heavy to lift then ask for help.
